ALEXA
The Basics
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Age: 27
Birth Date: June 25
Occupation: Journalist for Lumiose Press
What Do You Look Like?
Appearance: Alexa's physical build is lean and in shape; standing at a fairly average height for someone her age, she isn't terribly muscular, but her active lifestyle keeps her healthy and fit. Her eyes are dark green-grey and her hair is dirty blonde, cropped short and mildly curled (often times, she's in too much of a hurry to style it properly, so locks of it tend to become displaced and fall in her eyes). Due to her hasty, quirky lifestyle, she has a habit of standing or sitting in awkward or unusual positions, ultimately resulting in bad posture.Starter Outfit: On a standard day out in the field, Alexa prefers to wear shorter sleeves and tight-fitting (but not restrictive) clothing. Her favourite outfit consists of a black and red low-cut top with elbow-length sleeves; at the end of the sleeves as well as her collar, white extensions flare out. In addition to this, she wears grey skinny jeans and brown boots. No matter what she's wearing, she always has on hand her fanny pack and belt, which contains various supplies such as her camera, electric recharger, and audio recorder.
Who Are You?
Likes: Adventuring and exploring, her career, watching battles, documenting exciting scoops, camping, hot chocolateDislikes: Disappointing others, staying in one place too long, bad weather (makes it difficult to shoot outdoors), missing out on big opportunities, paper jams
Fears: Being as adventurous as she is, she doesn't fear a lot, but she is rather unsettled by crawly bugs (such as Ariados and Weedle). She's okay with the "pretty" bugs Viola uses in her gym.
Goals: She's achieved her goal since her early teens of becoming a journalist--now she constantly yearns to find and cover exquisite stories for the press
Personality: Bright, optimistic, and pulsing with energy, Alexa is always eager to take on whatever task her job as a lead journalist brings her, travelling far and wide across the Kalos region--and even to other regions, on occasion--in order to deliver only the most eye-grabbing, attention-worthy stories to her readers. She is very passionate about her hobbies as a writer, photographer, designer, and interviewer, and devotes most of her time to doing these things, even just for fun; this makes her dedicated and diligent, and certainly not one to miss a beat when it comes to things for which she cares.
At the same time, her one-track mind can distract her from the bigger picture, thus making her rather naive and even negligent, to a degree. She is often forgetful and finds herself worrying too much over things long after they should be an issue to her. Her eagerness can at times cause her to seem gullible or rash when she doesn't think everything through before charging in, and when things don't go exactly as planned, she finds herself thinking for a long time and wondering exactly why they didn't work. At the very least, she is a multitasker, so she is able to go back and try and fix things while she thinks about the wrong steps she took.
Also worthy of note is Alexa's high-spirited energy. It is difficult to get her down for too long because she constantly thinks on the brighter side, and tries to channel this same kind of thinking to her friends and family. When someone around her is excited about something, she too will express the same kind of enthusiasm, and will cheer them on in whatever their endeavors may be. That said, she also tries to be sympathetic should anyone around feel upset, but her way of dealing with them isn't always appreciated (that is, trying to make them happy again with her zealous appeal).
Where Did You Come From?
Hometown: Santalune CityBackground: As a young child with an even younger sister, Alexa was always one for adventure and getting around. She grew up in the small town of Santalune, where she was able to make things enthralling for herself in the absence of any real events or going-ons. She liked to tell stories about her events of the day, typically exaggerating or expanding upon them, to try and impress her family. Her childish spark and love for the world around her made her tales appreciated by the household, anyways.
At this point in time, she was unable to travel far outside her city due to her parents frequently being busy, but the odd times they did take trips around Kalos were always wonderfully fascinating to young Alexa. At ten years old she caught a Skiddo on the outskirts of Lumiose during one vacation, and Skiddo quickly became a close friend of hers. With the hardy little Pokémon now by her side, she was able to travel much farther on her own, although the life of a trainer never exactly appealed to her. Instead, she took up some of her own interests--one of which being writing.
By her early teens, after doing a fair amount of research on the field, Alexa decided she knew what she wanted to get into: journalism. Her ability to tell a strong story and love for exploration fuelled this fiercely, and she was able to get into photography and computer software through the influence of her sister, Viola. Years of practice and schooling were what brought her to an apprenticeship in her late teens as a columnist for a small newspaper company in Couriway Town, where she worked hard to prove to her superiors that she would become qualified for a higher position someday. Throughout her travels (which were much more expansive than her childhood expeditions), she caught a Noibat to evolve into a flying Pokémon, which would maximize her flexibility and need to be right where the action is when it is happening. Over time, she travelled across Kalos and even to other regions to put together all kinds of articles... and then she was offered a position as a reporter for Lumiose Press, the biggest press company in all of Kalos.
Now one of the most valued journalists in the company for her skill, Alexa lives in an apartment in Lumiose City with her three Pokémon: Skiddo, Noibat, and her recently-acquired Helioptile. She knows the city inside out and enjoys offering help to any young trainers in the city looking to find their way around. Otherwise, it is difficult to tell where exactly she is, but one thing is for sure--she'll be chasing a story.
Behind The Scenes
Your name: Dygii
RP experience: I've been writing seriously for about six years and have been RPing almost just as long. I got into paragraph-style RPing around four years ago, and although I more frequently do script style nowadays, I like to think I'm not too out of practice. owo"
Why do you want this character?: I really like the idea of a flexible, travelling character because it gives me so many opportunities to RP in different scenarios with all kinds of different people. Also, I have light experience in journalism myself (working for the school yearbook, aha), so with research on my side I really hope to do this character justice!
What are your plans for this character?: I want to actively involve her in the storyline like the missed opportunity that wasn't in the games. Based on X and Y as well as her role in the anime, she seems like a really spirited character, and I think this could be taken to a decent level when factoring in the plotline of the forum. She'll be the one to be able to deliver news all over Kalos and hopefully have some sort of impact, however minor, on the story.
RP example:
The Dubois kids stayed close behind the three adults as they entered the room, feeling as though making noise would shatter something vital. There was a nurse standing by the bedside, sizing the group up as they entered. She might have been saying something then, as well, but neither Brendan nor Abby could really care.
Brendan, upon seeing the still figure in the hospital bed, had shoved past everybody and was at the edge of the bedrail. In spite of his hasty entrance, he managed to stay relatively quiet, and his mouth stayed shut. Abby had approached a little more casually, but she still held the same level of concern. The boy was gripping the railing with both hands, holding his body over Thorner’s unconscious figure slightly, and his sister found herself short of breath as she scaled the older teen with her eyes; his condition, while allegedly stable, was still very rough, and there was a very lifeless feeling about him in defiance of the steady rise and fall of his chest. Beneath the mask, his breath was coming out as a low hiss, and it sounded all but laborious.
“Jeez, Thorny. Would you look at yourself.”
Abby’s attention snapped up. Her brother was mumbling, his blue eyes frisking back and forth across Thorner’s body. His expression was gentle, and it was usually one he reserved purely for Abby whenever she was upset. He had shifted into a slouch, crossing his arms on the bedrail.
“It’s kinda stupid,” he continued, as though nobody was listening. “I always knew you’d wind up like this someday. With all the stupid crap you put yourself through… Never woulda thought this would happen ‘cuz of a stupid accident. Never thought it woulda killed you, either.”
He paused, and Abby had to bite her lip to stop herself from saying anything to him. He hated being interrupted, and if there was something he needed to say, he would say it.
“…We need you, Thorner. The four of us? We aren’t a group without you. I… I’m sorry for a lot of the things I’ve said and done to you. I don’t want you thinking that you aren’t good for anything. And I know you can’t hear me right now, but… Maybe it’s better that you can’t. Heh. I guess there’s a good reason why I never said any of these things to you before.”
Brendan turned his head towards Abby, who tried to give him a reassuring look in return. She gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder and said, “It’s all going to be fine. You know it will be.”
Her brother looked back down at his injured friend, and Abby could only help but wonder how much this accident had changed his perspective on things.
