AVENDAL "AVA" RAYNE
The Basics
Avendal Marelyn Rayne
Gender:
Female
Sexuality:
Undecided
Age:
20
Birth Date:
4th March
What Do You Look Like?
Appearance:One of the first things noticed about Avendal is her gentle features. Her friendly looking eyes are, more often than not, complemented by a cheerful smile that has a tendency to attract people towards her, especially if they are looking for someone to talk to. Her skin is naturally tanned causing her to avoid burns in the summer, although she hardly darkens either. Both her hair and eyes are a dark chestnut brown, although her hair lightens during the summer, showing up copper strands among the dark mass. Her hair falls to her shoulders with a slight, smooth curve. She always keeps it neat and tidy and often wears it tied back. Under her hair, a scar runs across the back of her neck and down to her right shoulder from a scalding caused by some hot stew that hit her when a drunken guy threw a bowl of the stuff across the room. It appears a sore red-pink in comparison to her swarthy skin.
Avendal’s frame is naturally small and lithe, although she stands at five foot eight, giving her a rather lanky appearance when combined with her long legs. However, as thin as she is from occasional exercise, she is not skinny, possessing just enough meat in the right places, but she lacks any sign of muscle as she has never aimed to develop any.
Starter Outfit:
Avendal’s outfit starts with a loose fitting top with long sleeves that extend right down to her wrists. The fabric is soft, medium weight cotton of a cheerful orange which is pleasing against her skin. In comparison to the loose fit of her top, which hides the shape of the feminine aspects of her top and extends to the top of her thighs a little like a tunic, on her lower half Avendal wears tight fitting trousers of a dark brown shade similar to her hair. Her brown boots are a shade darker still and extend to mid-calf. The laces are the same orange colour as her top, as are the bands that she uses to tie her hair back into a plait. Her bag is a darker orange shade with a brown strap and fastenings.
Who Are You?
Likes:Swimming, reading, sewing, helping others and healing abilities.
Dislikes:
Lewd stares, those who hurt others, failing at something, menial tasks and alcohol.
Fears:
The dark and being a failure.
Goals:
Enjoy an adventure with Pokémon and become a Pokémon breeder.
Personality:
Avendal could never be considered lacking in confidence. She always holds her head high and is ready to step forward into any situation where she might be needed, keeping a level head at all times, especially in a crisis. Nothing gory fazes Avendal. She has always had to deal with the injuries of her younger siblings and is used to the sight of blood. However, she panics in the dark and needs constant comfort until the light returns at dawn. When she was younger she was given a night light and a soft plush toy for just this reason. She still has that toy Skitty and keeps it with her wherever she goes. Such things mark her as sentimental, but she is not one to cry easily. She can stand up for herself. Avendal is just about average at everything, having no specialist skill. She makes do with what she knows and is confident with her decisions, but she does not always do the right thing. When things go wrong because of her, she regrets her actions but is willing to accept that what is done is done. She learns from her mistakes but often it takes her several failed attempts to truly learn the lesson.
Avendal is normally a patient young woman but she can become frustrated when another person cannot grasp a concept that she finds simple. She is a terrible teacher as she cannot explain anything for the life of her. This would extend into Pokémon training if she ever had to teach a new move to one of her partners. She becomes prone to snapping and on rare occasions has completely lost her temper. Later she loses her temper at her own ineptitude and even later she feels awful for the way that she behaved and any of the cruel things that she may have said. Whilst Avendal is usually trustworthy, it can be hard to bond with her after being on the receiving end of her annoyance and it can put a serious dent in any bond that she has formed. Avendal is not one to gossip, but she loves to hear all the latest news and will often sit somewhere where she can eavesdrop on the conversations of other people. She can be nosy to the extreme but at least tries to be subtle with her prying. This is rarely effective, however.
Where Did You Come From?
Hometown:Originally from Saffron City in Kanto, her family now resides in Santalune City.
Family:
Seren (Mother), Bryn (Father), Finley "Finch" (Younger brother), Elinor "Lel" (Younger sister), Karnafon "Karn" (Younger brother)
Background:
Born in the bustling city of Saffron, far away in the Kanto region, Avendal spent her first few years among the bustling crowds. She attended school regularly upon reaching the age of four, but she never made any close friends as she never saw them outside of the school building. The city was too big and too busy. When she was five, the family upped sticks and moved to Goldenrod City in Johto due to a transfer in her father's job in the police. It was then found that her mother was pregnant and nine months later she gave birth to the twins that Avendal had been excited to meet, only to find out that they were really boring and couldn't do anything yet. Attention naturally shifted away from Avendal and she became jealous for a while, but her parents always made sure to find a little time for her. Three years later, the family shifted again, making the long journey to the Unova region, where they settled in the very quiet, very regular Lacunosa Town. Avendal had been surrounded by the bright lights of the city for her entire life and as such could not help but feel bored by the dull town. Worse than that, however, was the darkness that was around her every night. There were less street lights and the darkness was almost complete. Her fears began to grow, fed by the legends that surrounded the towns. A year later, when Avendal was nine, her mother was pregnant yet again. Karnafon was born nine months later. Better able to understand the demands of children, Avendal was less jealous this time and made a fuss over her new baby brother alongside her young twin siblings. Making friends had been easier in Lacunosa Town than in the cities, but barely six months after Karn was born the growing family was moving again, this time to the Kalos region, where they took up residence in Santalune City. Since then, the family has managed to stay put and Avendal has succeeded in making some close friends. Now, however, she feels ready to leave to start an adventure, and is heading to Lumiose City in anticipation of meeting her first Pokémon partner.

The summer morning was clear and calm. Barely a breeze stirred the long grass or the flowers which dotted it here and there. Forbs did not grow well in grass-dominated landscapes. Avendal sat on a log at the edge of the field, watching the Combee buzzing around between the pockets of flowers and the Pidove which sat along the hedgerow, plucking at berries and pecking at one another if they strayed too close. Life was peaceful and easy, at least for now. Once she returned home all the chaos of the world would be let loose in the forms of her younger siblings. They were much like the Pidove, Avendal reflected with an indulgent smile.
The young girl hopped to her feet with the ease of long practice. She felt invigorated and energetic this morning, a feeling that she could put to good use by doing something productive. Avendal strolled amiably along, leaving the field behind and heading back into town. She could not understand the obsession with doing everything to time in Lacunosa Town, despite the strange myths they kept prattling on about. The girl could feel the disapproving stares of the elderly town folk as she wove her way back home. They knew she had left when she should have been safely within the town’s walls. Her mother would not mind, however. She had just turned ten, and as such could have left on a Pokémon journey if she had wished too.
Rounding the door into the compact but comfortable house, Avendal was greeted with the sight of her twin siblings scrapping on the floor. “Finch and Lel are being naughty again, aren’t they?” she commented to baby Karn as she moved closer to her mother, who held the tiny human in her arms. Seren was smiling. Avendal thought she might be pleased that her daughter was home safely again. She looked up as her father spoke to her from the table, his newspaper open in front of him. Her ears perked up at the mention of some news that she should know. They were moving again! Avendal was used to moving, but she had made such good friends in Lacunosa Town, despite the fact that they thought her weird for not doing things when she should. She did not want to leave. Pulling a face, Avendal turned and fled up the stairs, slamming the door to her room behind her and curling up on the bed with her skitty plush in her arms. She did not want to leave! She did not!
