Let the Adventures Begin...

"What a lazy afternoon," Adrien sighed to nobody but himself. His usual company seemed to be running late, which struck him as odd because she never wasted a moment of her time anyway. He crossed one leg over the other and propped his elbow up on his knee, scanning today's passerby as he drummed his fingers in a steady rhythm upon his cheek. Silver hues scanned the crowd in search of one person, but the whole damned mass of people looked the same. Not a single person stood out to him; not even the closest table guests piqued his interest. Heaving a sigh, he decided to count every person that entered the cafe's doors. One... two.... three... Arceus, was he bored. Reclining back into his seat, Adrien stretched his weary body. It'd do no good to fall asleep outside like this, but could anybody really blame him? The weather felt absolutely divine. He leaned his body back, his chair now balancing on two legs as he adjusted his view. The bright sun behind his table's umbrella greeted him with a blinding smile. He grimaced and hid beneath the shade once again. Alright, the weather seemed divine. Good thing he wore sunscreen today.

Before he could get too comfortable with his odd train of thought, a familiar tune caught his attention. A smile tugged at his lips. He glanced over his shoulder, eyes immediately falling on the woman he dragged himself out of bed for. "About time you got here, love," he chuckled and took a sip from the tea he had neglected until now. "Almost thought this was your way of telling me you wanted to call it quits." He teased, obviously, although this uncanny delay couldn't be shaken. Wonder what caught her attention...?

[Tinny]

Hasty foot steps made their way over to their destination, getting lost in the sounds of the crowd. She was late, a realization she did not want to come to terms with. "Don't remind me...!" Camille whined, shoving things into her handbag while turning to take a seat in the chair aside Adrien, but not without giving him a small punch to the shoulder for his passing comment. Having a chance to catch her breath, she let out a long sigh. 
"This is unbelievable, I didn't even have time to finish my makeup." She muttered to herself as she reached in and pulled a tube of lip gloss from her pocket and a small hand mirror as well. "Can you believe the cab driver dropped me off at the wrong stop? I wasted my time and money." She continued, not taking her eyes away from the small mirror as she applied the last coat, puckering her lips in the process. Feeling satisfied, she gave herself a proud smile and returned the items to her bag. 

"Well, no matter. How long have you been waiting?" Her eyes gazed from the cup over to the male's face, making appropriate eye contact for the first time since she's arrived. He didn't seem too upset with her, hopefully. 

[Cashew]

Ah, so it wasn't her fault.

Adrien chuckled and offered her the rest of his tea; she looked like she needed it more than he did. He yawned and covered his mouth with his hand as he turned his head back to the bustling crowd, "Not too long. Ten or fifteen minutes tops." He shrugged, unsure of the exact time. Regardless, he flashed her a reassuring smile. "I'm just glad you made it on time. It would be a shame if we had to delay such a glorious day even further!"

Yes, this glorious day that had been delayed for nearly a year now has finally come. After having suffered through uncomfortable meetings with Camille's aunt and uncle, various jobs, and incredibly ridiculous late night shifts, today they would fulfill their promise. Today, they would finally embark on their own Pokémon journey. Of course, he felt a little weird about starting his adventure so late compared to most young trainers-to-be. Nine years is a pretty huge gap after all. Even so, Adrien was just grateful that Camille agreed to travel with him, even if it meant she'd get a later start than she'd hoped. That in itself deserved some thanks.

However, before they could leave, Adrien wanted to make sure they were in the best possible condition. Can't start a great adventure on an empty stomach, now can they? "Now that you're here, would you like anything to eat? Inconvenient cab ride or not, we do have a little time to spare." With a wink, he handed her a menu. "Take your pick; my treat."

[Tinny]

Yes, that's right! Today was a big day! It was quite the relief to hear she wasn't horribly late like she feared. Without much hesitation, Camille held the beverage in her hands gently before bringing it up to her lips and taking a quick sip, it was rather soothing after the rough morning she had. "Your treat? How could I pass up such a generous offer?" She teased, taking the menu and giving it a look. Resisting her urge to dine on nothing but sweets, she chose something simple from the menu and put it aside in favor of reaching for her partner's hand in excitement. 
"Can you believe we are only blocks away from finally receiving our Pokémon partners?!" The wait was nerve wracking, but she had to agree it was much more gratifying to share such an experience with someone else. 

Even after their entrees arrived, Camille just couldn't get her mind out of what was to come; she could have gone on forever, if it weren't for the fact they were going to be late if they didn't hurry.

...

Thankfully, it seemed they made it just in time. The brunette squeezed her companion's hand eagerly, "This is it, we'll finally get to start our Pokémon journey...!"

"Ah, pardon the intrusion, but I believe we were supposed to meet with the Professor?"

[Sparx]

A young assistant was tidying up the desks and counters when the couple walked into the lab. She had large, thick framed glasses, and her fair hair was tied back in a messy ponytail. By the looks of her, she was only just out of school, and new to the whole professor's assistant thing. The girl didn't seem to hear Camille when she asked for the professor, or at least, it took a while for her to realize she heard something. She finished stacking a column of pokedexes before looking up and noticing the pair.

"Oh, hello!" she called to them, straightening up and clapping her hands together. There was an excited gleam in her eyes; maybe it was her first time attending to new trainers. "The professor is out, currently, but I'd be more than happy to assist you! You're here for your starter Pokémon, right? I'll get you all set up!"

[Cashew]

After having waited in awkward silence for a couple of minutes, Adrien flashed the girl a warm smile as she came around to greet them. He could sense Camille's grip tensing up within his hand. Looks like he'd be doing the talking this time. "That'd be correct! Unfortunately, we are pretty late to the party. If you could possibly walk us through the process, we would greatly appreciate it." He noticed the way the woman seemed so eager, her eyes watching him intently as he spoke. Looking around the room, the rest of the assistants didn't show as much enthusiasm as this little lady in particular. He stifled a chuckle. At least he wasn't the only person new to this procedure. He let go of Camille's hand and gestured for her to step forward, "Lady gets the first pick. I'm alright with waiting." Or rather, he had no other choice but to wait on her decision.

[Tinny]

From the moment she woke up this morning, Camille had expected everything to go smoothly. They would be in and out with daylight to spare. Sadly, like most of the morning, she hit yet another road block... 

Unwanted conversation and someone who seemed just as new to the whole ordeal as they were. 

With a slight clench of her fist, she stepped forward. She wasn't particularly fond of this part of the process, in any situation really, if she had it her way she would just receive what she came for and be on her way. Despite this though, she relaxed and put on a smile. She waited so long for this day to come, if she had to put a few more minutes into procedure than she wanted to, then so be it. 

With a casual stride over to the counter nearest to their guide into the world of Pokémon and rested her arms on the surface. "Well, that's a bit of a shame. I would have loved to meet the professor before we set off, but nonetheless, the experience is exciting." And hopefully efficiently handled despite the lack of experience this woman may possess. 

"Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us out! But before we move on to the first step... Your name is?"

[Sparx]

The couple was very polite and seemed mature, which put the new assistant at ease, as she had heard horror stories of very rude children barging in and demanding Pokémon from overworked staff. She brightened up even more, if possible, clearly excited to help the kids along.

"It's no problem! I'm happy to help," she told them with a big smile. "My name is Julie. I'll get you all set up in no time; it's really easy, so don't worry. All we have to do is have you both choose which Pokémon you'd like to start with- you get one from the six available- and then I'll have you registered in the system as trainers and program a pokédex and pokégear to be personalized to your trainer IDs. If you'd like, I can explain all of the starters to you, but if you've already done your research, we can just start with you picking one. And if you have any other questions about anything, feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer any questions or concerns you might have!"

[Cashew]

Adrien listened closely to Julie's words. She did seem to know what she was doing, despite being new. He nodded; that seemed fair enough.

"Thank you ever so much, Julie," he said as he walked over and slipped his arm over Camille's shoulder, "My name is Adrien, and this is Camille. Although we haven't studied everything about Pokémon, I'd like to say we're at least novices on the matter. However, should we run into any problems or questions along the way, would the pokégear be of any use? Perhaps a guide, or--" He felt a sharp jab to his side, causing him to wince and glance in Camille's direction. Her eyes didn't leave the assistant and barely even took notice of his existence. She must be getting impatient. He sighed, but immediately masked the dull pain with a smile, "Forgive me, I'm wasting precious time."

He ushered Camille towards Julie, then directed his attention to the various posters and diagrams on the walls of the lab. While he would have loved to stick around to ask more questions, teasing Camille and testing her patience entertained him much more. It's a shame he'd have to face the consequences once they were to leave the building... He hoped she would take her time picking out her new friend.

[Tinny]

It was just like him to finish the exchange with a snarky comment. No matter, he'll be feeling the burn(quite literally) once they were finished here. After regaining her composure, she quickly moved toward a nearby display, holding six pokeballs neatly assorted into two rows of three. "With all due respect, my dear Julie, I've done a bit of research and have come to a solid decision on which of these darling Pokémon I will choose to accompany me!

The tips of her fingers caressed the display ever so gently before turning back to the professor's assistant, a large smile on her face. "Please tell me you have a Fennekin! That's the one I want!" Camille said with much enthusiasm. It has been her dream starter since she was a child; not once has her final decision faltered, which held true even now. "Surely you can agree it's the most adorable thing you've ever seen, " she stated, treating it more as fact than personal opinion, "I'm sure it would make a great partner!"

Her hands clapped together, just the thought of having one of her own was akin to that of a far off dream. Except this was very real, and she was only moments away from meeting one up close.

She couldn't wait much longer.

Julie waited patiently for the couple to finish their minor scuffle and decide what they wanted to do- ask questions or get their Pokémon. Her excited smile never left her face, her patience seemingly limitless. Once Adrien had walked off and Camille told the assistant what she wanted, Julie stepped right back into doing her job.

"Of course! Fennekin, right away!" She turned toward a counter with a large computer and retrieved a pokeball from it, which she then handed to Camille. "Fennekin are excellent partners once befriended, though they can be a bit moody at first." In one fluid motion, she lifted a few more items from the counter, which she placed into a bag and also passed over. "Your fennekin, and a few items for your journey. And to answer your question, Adrien, yes! Your pokégear has internet access, and if that isn't enough, it's programmed with a Holo Caster with the lab's number already in it, so you can ask for help! Now, have you decided which starter you'd like, or would you like a bit more time to think about it?"

Congratulations! You are now a trainer!

"Ah, wonderful! Good to know, good to know," he nodded, highly satisfied with this answer. "I've no further questions then, but thank you. Hmmm..."

Adrien mulled over the idea of what starter he should choose, arms crossed as he stared at the display. Each Pokémon showed up with a name and a picture. They all looked rather interesting in their own ways... He glanced at Camille, who seemed preoccupied with her bag full of goodies. Fennekin, huh? Somehow it didn't surprise him that she would pick a fire-type as her first companion. It matched up to her personality perfectly. As for him, he couldn't quite pinpoint what Pokémon would suit him best. Unlike Camille, every decision for his journey is comprised of taking shots in the dark. So far, at least. Looks like this one is no exception.

With a long, deep sigh, he made his decision. "I think I'll go with Chespin then. I'm pretty sure we'll get along well enough."

[Sparx]

Though Camille had a very fast-paced personality, Adrien seemed to prefer to take things slow and think things through. Julie admired the consideration he put into picking his starter; it was a sign of an excellent and intelligent trainer! Though she had a feeling that both kids would get along well enough in their own ways as they set off for their journey. She hoped they wouldn't run into too much trouble, as a lot of trainers seemed to lately...

Adrien eventually decided on getting a chespin, and Julie swiftly got to gathering everything he would need for him. She gently handed over a chespin's pokeball and then started programming his pokédex and pokégear, which she placed in a bag with the rest of his starter kit and handed him. "There you go! And I believe that's all you need before you set out, unless you have any other questions. If not, I hope you have a fun, safe journey! And keep an eye out for any trouble makers, because I hear they're rather plentiful lately, especially around the city. So be careful, alright?"

While waiting for Adrien to get settled, Camille wasted no time in releasing the newly gifted Pokémon from its pokeball. There was a quick flash of light that soon faded to reveal a small yellow mass at the base of her feet. The fennekin gave a little shake before setting its sights on the large human in front of it, his fiery orbs resting themselves on her figure. They were even cuter in person!

Camille couldn't help herself and instantly scooped up the small Pokémon in her arms. "Why hello," She spoke ecstatically, "Aren't you just the cutest thing! Adrien, look! Isn't he just precious?" She held him up to the male in excitement. "I'm going to call him Julian; we'll get along swimmingly, I can feel it!" While subtle, the little fox wagged its red tipped tail, enjoying the praise.

With introductions out of the way, she returned her attention back to Julie, who seemed to have finished tending to Adrien by now. "We'll keep that in mind. Thank you again for your assistance!" She said, giving her a friendly hand shake before reaching over to grab her Partner's sleeve. "There's no time to waste, my love. Let's get going!" 

And with that, they were out the door.
