LEONARD GREY
The Basics
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Age: Thirty-three
Birth Date: September 8th
Occupation: Waiter at Café Soleil
Text Color: #CD0000
What Do You Look Like?
Appearance: Physically, Leonard is slender and thin, with narrow shoulders and hips with very little muscle overall. He stands at about five foot eleven inches and weighs a little less than one hundred and fifty pounds, falling just a tad behind the average in his general height and age class. Despite being remarkably angular and lanky, Leonard is surprisingly strong notwithstanding his appearance. His face is pointy and angular and his short brown hair is always combed back neatly, with the exception of the disorderly cowlick that curls off just left of his brow. He maintains a decent amount of stubble rather than being cleanly shaven and dons a pair of thin-wire glasses that sit crookedly on the bridge of his nose. It’s often easy to tell how scatterbrained he is with one quick glance at his hazy green eyes; most of the time, Leonard is lost in thought and not quite in touch with reality.
Starter Outfit:
Given his lazy lifestyle, Leonard doesn’t pride himself much in his choice of attire. More often than not, he’s wearing his work uniform: a pair of black slacks and a crew-neck t-shirt with the bright purple and yellow “Café Soleil” logo embroidered sloppily on the front. Furthermore, his work order sneakers are purple with yellow laces, much to his disdain, and the only other work-friendly item he’s permitted to carry around is the “Café Soleil” waist apron, which also happens to be purple, the inners yellow. Inside of the aforementioned, one can usually find his cell phone, crumpled bills and miscellaneous coins, and a pen or two.
Who Are You?
Likes: Coffee, reading comic books, playing card games, collecting figurines, building things from scratch, technology, computer hacking, watching movies, chess, playing the piano, working
Dislikes:
Paperwork, large crowds, one-on-one conversations, disorganization, mistakes (usually on his own part), arrogance, unplanned events, spontaneity, public speaking
Fears:
Commitment, in terms of social relationships and anything beyond, and drowning
Goals:
After resigning from Team Magma, Leonard decided that his best options would be to leave Hoenn and make a name for himself elsewhere, preferably in a place where he would be able to start anew without any inherent struggles. Currently, he plans on delving into creating and mass producing his own inventions, but, as per usual, he lacks the necessary funds to do so.
Personality:
Leonard is generally a very kind, caring, and giving person. He lives to please others and he’ll try his hardest to do so, even if his own morality and self-respect is in danger. He’s incredibly polite and chivalrous to both men and women and he’s respectful to just about everyone he meets. He’s an all-around nice guy, though he’s very shy and his good deeds usually go by stealthily and unnoticed by most. Even when other individuals are inconsiderate and disrespectful towards him, Leonard will always retaliate with politeness and try to be as refined and well-mannered as he can without being conspicuously rude. He is, however, extremely irritable and prone to spontaneous fits of inexplicable rage, but he’s able to keep it to a minimum with some meditation techniques he’s practiced throughout the years. Like the majority of human beings, Leonard does have major flaws in his personality, one of which being the aforementioned ‘temper tantrums’.
He’s cripplingly shy and always feels the need to apologize, even if he’s done nothing wrong. He’ll stutter while talking to new faces and will have trouble striking up even meaningless small talk. The only time his eidetic memory fails is when he comes into contact with a person he’s never seen before; his brain will frantically search for the person in its registry, so to speak, and will cause him to tweak out when he doesn’t recognize it. As he continues to talk to the individual, however, he’ll commit the person’s face to memory and the conversation will become more comfortable for him. When speaking out in front of crowds—large or small—Leonard will show common signs of anxiety, such as sweating, trembling, and stuttering. He’s terrified of people staring at him for reasons unknown, and most of the time he’s almost guaranteed to be having an internal meltdown while trying to deliver a speech. When he’s around people he actually enjoys the company of, though, he can be a completely different person; calm, talkative, and even humorous (though usually not).
If there’s anything that Leonard loves, it’s building things. From a young age, he was always interested in taking things apart and putting them back together again, with slight modifications, of course. He’ll mostly build things such as computers, phones, and tablets, but he’s been known to produce the occasional weapon to replicate some of the ones from his favorite comic series. When he’s not tinkering with mechanics, he’s writing music. He taught himself how to read music and play piano when he was a small child and loved the sound of stacking notes ever since. His compositions are far from terrible, but he chooses to keep them to himself as a private hobby to avoid inevitable criticism. He prefers not to divulge that he’s able to play piano, either; it’s something he does in his spare time to express his emotions and keep himself, well, composed.
Where Did You Come From?
Hometown: Mossdeep CityFamily:
Janine Grey (Mother) [deceased]
Christopher Grey (Father) [deceased]
Emma Grey (Sister) [deceased]
Catherine Evans (Wife) [deceased]
Background:
Leonard was born in Mossdeep City to his mother and father, Janine and Christopher Grey. He was the eldest of two siblings, the other being his younger sister by ten years, Emma. They lived a relatively normal and healthy life; Leonard spent most of his time collecting and reading comic books and Emma played with her stuffed toys and had tea parties like most little girls did. Leonard went off to college at age eighteen and Emma remained home schooled until she was old enough to leave to go out on her own. He received his Master’s degree in engineering and made his parents proud, but the lack of jobs available in Mossdeep (and the entirety of Hoenn in general) made him consider a different alternative. He’d heard rumors that Team Magma was looking for mechanical engineers to build weapons for them, and, as much as he’d hate building weapons of mass destruction for a criminal organization, he had no other choice. His family was spiraling into bankruptcy and Emma had become gravely ill.
If he didn’t find a job soon, his family would lose everything and Emma would die. Holding the well-being of his family at high priority, Leonard enlisted into Team Magma and became one of their top engineers in a matter just a year’s time. Instead of building weapons, though, he was pretty much trapped fixing computers and installing routers; basic grunt work, even as an administrator. Even so, he made enough money to support his family’s needs and he helped them get back on track, though Emma was still extremely ill, and no doctors knew what was wrong with her. Knowing that she didn’t have much time left to live, Leonard made it his goal to make her life as happy as it could be before she passed away. For the next few years, Emma was the sole focus of Leonard’s attention; he took her almost everywhere, and at first, she seemed to be doing better. He continued to work for Magma and started dating a woman named Catherine Evans, also a Team Magma administrator who had a thing for reading comic books, though she wasn’t as avid a collector as Leonard himself.
Their relationship progressed, and, after nine years of being together, they got married. Their happiness was short-lived, however; Once Team Aqua’s new leader rose to power and captured Kyogre, they threatened to expand the seas and wipe Team Magma from existence. Having no choice but to retaliate, Leonard and his scout team went undercover and infiltrated Team Aqua’s headquarters while their families remained safe at home, completely oblivious to how dire their situation was. The waters continued to rise and threatened the lives of everyone in Hoenn, especially those that lived on the island of Mossdeep City, a city already drastically below sea level. Leonard and his team were able to defeat Team Aqua’s leader and release Kyogre, but most of Mossdeep went underwater during the process, wiping out a vast majority of its population. With nothing left to his name, and not a single shred of hope for humanity left in him, Leonard resigned from Team Magma. His entire family, including Emma and Catherine, was gone. Emotional volatility and physical instability coupled with minor post-traumatic stress, Leonard figured it best to leave Hoenn for good and start somewhere new, where he would be able to forget everything that happened (or at least shove it deep into the recesses of his mind), and live a peaceful life like he supposed he was meant to. He sold what precious family keepsakes he had left and purchased a ticket to the Kalos region, where he would hopefully be better off.
Behind The Scenes
Your name: Tom
RP experience:
I’ve been role-playing off-and-on for about three years now, I’d like to say. It’s more of a hobby to me than anything— I wouldn’t call myself a serious writer or anything like that. S’all in good fun, really.
Why do you want this character?:
I have a lot more fun RPing characters than I can relate to in one way or another. Although Leo’s only been around for about two years, he’s one of my only developed characters and I enjoy using him a lot.
What are your plans for this character?:
I’d like to use Leonard to improve my (poor) writing skills, mostly, but I’d also like to have him interact with others so he’s able to become a more well-rounded character instead of a monstrous product of my incoherent thought process.

Leonard settled in a comfortable booth seat in the far corner of Mossdeep City's Hard Stone Sports Bar with his Druddigon, Gaile, enjoying a hot meal of grilled steak and mashed potatoes with gravy before returning to work for the evening. He very seldom ever had the opportunity to eat out, so he was quick to jump at the chance to engage himself in something besides work. Even though he wasn't at work, he still wore his Team Magma belt, boots, and pants. He'd left his hoodie in the trunk of his car and instead wore a white v-neck shirt with a small Team Magma logo in the upper right-hand corner. While he was eating, his glasses would often slide down the slope of his nose, but he'd be too busy chowing down to make the necessary and proper adjustments. He sat upright with his elbows hanging off the edge of the wooden table, using a knife and fork to cut small pieces of steak from the larger round. Gaile, on the other hand, gripped his t-bone firmly between his claws and tore off huge chunks at a time with his jagged crimson teeth and swallowed them whole. Leonard was definitely pleased that this particular restaurant allowed Pokémon- he was hardly ever able to spend quality time with any of them, especially Gaile, who was ever only used as his powerhouse solely for battles. Leonard looked over at his Druddigon companion. The voracious eater was currently stuffing his face with steak and potatoes and would every now and then call the waitress over to bring him another root beer to guzzle down. Despite his dragon's atrocious table manners and rude behavior, Leonard couldn't help but smile. He turned his head towards the sports bar's wide-screen television, currently displaying the big football semi-finals between the Lilycove Sharpedos and the Goldenrod Growlithes. Now, Leonard didn't have much of a particular interest in football, but it was sure entertaining to watch a bunch of thirty year-old guys in tight pants tackle the hell out of each other.
"Are you done?" he asked Gaile, reaching over to take away his plate covered in potato scraps and dripping brown gravy. Gaile growled and ripped the dish away from his trainer, then proceeding to stick out his large tongue and lick the entire plate clean. Leonard chuckled, pushing up his glasses with his index finger. Gaile was certainly a trip. "You can have mine, too. I don't have much of an appetite tonight," he said, pushing his plate, which was still piled with food, towards the blue-bodied dragon. Gaile graciously accepted and began his eating cycle all over again. Leonard ran a hand through his brown hair and made another quick adjustment to his glasses. Just thinking about work would stress him out. As much as he loved working for a criminal organization such as Magma to make ends meet, he wished that there was another way to capture Groudon and destroy the whole of Aqua. He planned on demolishing Magma, too, but first he needed their assistance to proceed any further in his plan. He shook the thoughts out of his head, trying to keep himself from thinking about it while he was off the clock. Suddenly, all of the lights in the entire restaurant flickered for a few seconds and then died out. The restaurant as a whole gasped in unison. Leonard peered out of the window behind him; the entire city's power was out. Not one single light could be seen for miles. In fact, the only source of light was the Mossdeep Lighthouse, and even that wasn't enough to illuminate the entire city. …
