What Do You Look Like?

Appearance: Standing at roughly 5' 3", Brendan is short for his age, although his frame is at least somewhat fitting for it; his body is very thin and bony, and he doesn't have a whole lot of muscle to back him up. In spite of this, he does not appear unhealthy, and has even participated in casual sports before (although his fitness level is nowhere near ideal).

    Brendan has a somewhat round face with a smaller nose and chin, a pale complexion with very little tanning, and bright blue eyes. His hair, possibly (in his opinion) his most prominent feature, is medium in length with short, messy bangs hanging over his forehead. It is dyed black with orange streaks peeking out intermittently, although if you asked his sister, she would disdainfully tell you his original hair colour is brown. In addition to this, Brendan speaks in a moderate Unovian accent.

Starter Outfit: Brendan is a typical "I wear whatever I wanna wear" kid--usually he'll throw on whatever happens to be lying on his floor and doesn't carry a strong odour. That said, he does have some favoured articles of clothing. The outfit he most frequently wears consists of bright saturated colours paired with black and white, which help to punctuate his bold personality. He wears black fitted jeans, which allow for some comfort and room where necessary, along with a multicoloured studded belt and knockoff skateboarding shoes. A lime green hoodie patterned with bright purple and pink is layered overtop a white t-shirt. He doesn't normally wear accessories of any sort, but on occasion he will adorn a pair of sunglasses.

Who Are You?

Likes: Bright colours, television shows, pop/rap music, smooth-talking, watching or playing the occasional sport, wild parties
Dislikes: Politics, his aunt and uncle, smokers, religion (namely the widespread worship of Arceus), being argued with
Fears: Public speeches, being in pain, Spinarak and Ariados
Goals: Brendan has never really had any major leverage on what he wants to do as a career, so finding a career worth his while is a goal in itself. Other than that, he plans on making money.

Personality: He's loud, hot-tempered, rebellious, and stubborn--and that's just how he wants it to be. Brendan isn't some revolutionary figure who wants to make an impact on the world, but his bold demeanour is what he wants to show off to everyone, regardless of what kind of trouble it lands him in. He's explicitly stubborn and if anyone tries to argue with him, he will hold his ground until the conversation reaches a crescendo or is stopped by a third party. He has a tendency to be immature and politically incorrect, making and laughing at inappropriate jokes and using questionable language.

    Brendan is quick to anger and often unforgiving, but in a way this conceals his one and only weak point. He's afraid to care about anyone lest something happen to them, so earning his trust is a very difficult task. Should anyone attempt to pry and pick him for personal details, he will immediately reject them. The only one he'll truly defend to no end is his sister Abby, but in recent times they've drifted apart and his loyalty to her is somewhat fragmented.

Where Did You Come From?

Hometown: Virbank City, Unova; currently lives in Anistar City
Family: Matthew (father), Caroline (mother), Andrew (uncle), Tina (aunt), Abigail "Abby" (sister)

Background: Brendan and his sister Abigail were born in Castelia City two years apart to their mother, who lived in Virbank City along with their father. The city, while overrun by rebellious youth who hope to make it big in the world, was also a slummy, dirty town, being exposed to the pollution of the factory next door and acting as the doorstep to the spectacular Poké Star Studios. One could imagine that living conditions were very poor and housing was inexpensive--which was only the tip of the iceberg for the Dubois family, with very little spending money and ill housing for their children.

     Both parents worked long hours a day in order to compensate, which lead Brendan and Abby into being looked after by a babysitter for most of their childhood. Being the older of the two, Brendan was very protective of his younger sister, and even though she was naive about the extent of their family's financial problems, he would do all he could to ensure she felt satisfied and fulfilled in her younger days: he would buy her toys she wanted with what little pocket change he happened to have, skip having showers or baths to ensure she got all the hot water, and even give up rare treats like chocolate bars so she could have them. He ended up sacrificing a lot for her, and even though she still didn't have an amazingly privileged life, it was worth it for him to see her face light up with happiness at the end of the day.

    By the time Brendan was 15 and Abby was 13, the parents finally made the painful decision to send the kids off to another region to live with their considerably richer aunt and uncle, because the family was in steep debt and they wanted their children to live a much more pleasant life. Brendan protested fiercely against this, having even been through several jobs since he was ten in order to help sustain the household (he was let go multiple times after authorities found he was too young to legally work), but the day came when their aunt and uncle arrived from Kalos to bring the siblings to their house, and he had no choice but to go with them.

    Once they were settled in their new home in Anistar with their few belongings, they were given money and permission to spend it on new clothes (as their prissy aunt didn't want to be seen with the kids in such "ratty" outfits). Still angry over having to move away, Brendan made it his personal mission to take advantage of this newfound wealth as much as possible; to his bitter surprise, his relatives cared so little that they allowed him a lot of freedom, so long as he didn't make a mess of any of their house. So the directionless Brendan abused this as much as he possibly could, which began to put a block between himself and Abby as she largely disagreed with what he was doing.

    Presently, Abby owns a small Froakie she received not long ago from Sycamore Laboratories. Since Brendan has no real idea what he wants to do in the future, he decided he too would receive a starter, but would instead pursue the life of a Pokémon Trainer in order to make a bit of money--and hopefully change his parents' minds, even though he fails to realize how far from possibility that would be.
